Mrs. Philippines of North Texas Charity Campaign
"Be the Change this World Needs!"
"It is not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving", St. Teresa of Calcutta.
Sigrid Daynos, or Sam, the middle of three children of Marciano and Irene Mendoza, was born and grew up in Concepcion, Tarlac. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the Chinese General Hospital in Metro Manila.
Sam is married to Christopher Daynos and together have two children, Danielle who lives in Colorado and Alonzo, a sophomore at UNT. As a first generation immigrant family to the US in 2003, they eventually put down roots in Frisco, Texas five years later. From a stay-at-home mom who devoted her extra time volunteering at her kids' school, Sam is now working as a medical assistant at Bent Tree Family Physician. It is at her current job where she is able to touch patients' lives by giving comfort, compassion and care.
An avid runner, Sam is a member of the Frisco Running Club, Pinoy Runner Club and YMCA. Through her participation in these clubs, she is able to help raise funds for charity to help a lot of people in need. Sam also volunteers at The Stewpot, a homeless service
ministry in Dallas that provides a safe haven for homeless individuals and those at risk of being homeless and provides meals, casework services, children and youth programs and creative alternatives to individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty.
Volunteering and raising funds for charitable causes is in Sam's DNA. It is thus of no surprise that she has readily stepped up to be a Charity Lead Fundraiser for the 2023 Mrs. Philippines of North Texas Charity Campaign.
In addition to the PCCI Charities, Sam has selected Bantay Bata 163 (a child welfare organization) as her beneficiary. Bantay Bata is a social welfare program launched in 1997 to protect disadvantaged and at-risk children in the Philippines through a national emergency hotline 163 which allows people to call in and reports incidents of child abuse, exploitation and neglect. It also provides medical assistance, housing and counseling. For more information about Bantay Bata 193, please visit https://abscbnfoundation.org/campaign/bantay-bata-hotline.
Sam strongly adheres to Mother Teresa's teachings, one being “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” Sam humbly thinks all the fundraising she and her Team undertake are just small things. But in the life of the child who gets rescued, or fed, or housed, or educated from Team Sam's efforts, it is a huge thing. More so, because it is done with great love.
